Advance notice of a change of plan for our September meeting. Our advertised speaker for Friday 28 September, Keith Walker, has generously agreed to postpone his talk in favour of an evening devoted to the publication of a book called ‘Percy — A Story of 1918’. It’s about a young Cefn lad, Percy Edwards, who gets called up in the final months of World War 1, and sadly is killed on 28 September 1918. A century to the day after his death, the author of the book, Peter Doyle, and the book’s illustrator, Tim Godden are coming to Cefn Mawr, where they will speak to schoolchildren during the day, and then address the Historical Society at the evening meeting in the George Edwards Hall. This is a very special occasion, which we hope many people will take the opportunity of attending. Copies of the book, designed to be read and enjoyed by adults and youngsters, should be available for sale on the night. Do make a point of being present at this unique event.
